5The best music software I've seen so far  Nov 16, 2008 By An aspiring animator
Late last year, I bought Finale SongWriter 2007, thinking that the fifty-dollar software would be enough for me to compose music for my cartoons. However, after nearly a year of not being satisfied by its limitations, I finally paid an extra $50 for an upgrade to Finale PrintMusic 2009, and I do not regret it. For one thing, SongWriter is limited to how many staves of music you can put in it, and PrintMusic doesn't seem to have that limitation. It can also do grace notes, and other things that SongWriter couldn't. I originally sought out to buy PrintMusic anyway, but I thought it would be a bargain to buy the other program instead. Better late than never, I guess.

5PrintMusic is spectacular!  Dec 22, 2008 By F. Klinowski "economy of movment"
As an amateur musician/hobbyist I am completely blown away by this music software! I am amazed at it's capabilities and am humbled by those who can use most/all of them. Kudo's to the programming team at Finale. I'm not going to go into any detail here because I could never explain the creative experience that it affords the user in 25 words or less. The only thing that I can say is that if you have any music rolling around in your head, PrintMusic will definitely help you get it on paper. Awesome product!

4PrintMusic '09  Nov 19, 2008 By Kuba's Mom
I had been using my version of PrintMusic since 2001! A new computer with Vista required an update, and it's gotten much more sophisticated and easier to use. I really haven't had any problems with Vista (yet, anyway). This is a great value if you don't need the more powerful Finale products. I am a private music teacher and find all I need with PrintMusic.

5Easy and Fun to Use  Feb 24, 2009 By Aunt Pat
PrintMusic's features are easy to use. The software is very intuitive, so if you know how to read music, it's a cinch to create your own. The first tutorial was very clear and fun. I haven't completed any more tutorials because (1) I have been able to figure out how to do anything I want to do without them and (2) I'm having too much fun to buckle down and study.

I basically bought PrintMusic so I could transpose piano music for my alto saxaphone and be able to read the result (unlike the smudged pencil versions I've used before). I had no idea how powerful PrintMusic would be. The scanning function works fairly well, even on my 10-year old scanner. The MIDI function is easy to set up. So far, I've only output songs to my MIDI keyboard, but that works wonderfully. Once you've set it up, directing the playback to the computer speakers or the MIDI device is as easy as selecting a printer in a word processing program.

PrintMusic's functions are intuitive and the electronic user manual available through the Help menu has answered every question I have had so far. The fact that the sound is played as you enter each note means that the feedback is instantaneous. The playback function works like an ordinary device, with icons for pause, play, stop, etc. And you can choose the measure where you want to start the playback, so you can listen to just a portion, not the whole piece.

This software is well worth the money for me. I've actually begun to experiment with writing my own music because it's so easy and fun to use.

1MIDI interface not what I expected  May 03, 2009 By CJones "Buck"
I bought this because Finale advertised PrintMusic for "any" midi instrument. The idea is that by using the "Hyperscribe" functionality one simply plays with a click track and the music is transcribed through the MIDI interface. This may work great with a keyboard but the results are unusable with my wind controller. I guess there must be latency issues. So now I'm relegated to use the very slow "Simple Entry" functionality. I will say that the quality of my leadsheets are great but entry is extremely cumbersome, painfully slow, and click-centric. Over all I'm very disappoint in this software because of the MIDI interface. The reason I bought this tool was it claimed to interface with "any" MIDI instrument. I have other notation software that is much faster to use than this and at a lot less cost.
