Guitar and bass amp simulators, VST-hosting capability for using personal effects plug-ins, and amp modelers enable full control of guitar tones.Besides the great sounds that are possible, the easy-to-use application will help capture new song ideas in real time and play them back instantly, even scoring the music for the composer. PROGRESSION guitar software's audio exporting and printing features means artists can share not only an audio file, but a standard sheet music, with leads and tabs as well. For reading, writing, and practicing a rhythm lick, PROGRESSION is a wonderful tool for any guitarist. | | | |

Powerful, inexpensive notation and MIDI scoring Sep 15, 2009
By Robert McAlister Progression is extremely easy to use. It provides what may be the only guitar-focused entry point to music notation and is just as useful for pianists and drummers (and bassists of course). Its ease allowed me to notate an entire song in about 1/4 of the time it took to do the same in other notation based software. Flexible functionality is available for pull-offs, hammer-ons, and controlling dynamics. Progression's sampled audio is superb. The guitars, basses, drums and pianos are all spot-on for creating backup tracks from notation. Also, MIDI note entry provides real-time or step entry with dynamics. The fretboard note entry is just plain cool. Overall excellent buy. I wish I'd bought it sooner.

Needs Improvement Dec 28, 2011
By Monkey Business I can't really use this software because I notate grace notes and can't add a slide or hammer to the next note. I contacted tech support and they said that I was correct and the software doesn't do that. I have much better results with Guitar Pro 6-

Nice tool, but needs some improvement. Jul 09, 2009

Overall, I'm glad I have this software, but I'm a little disappointed that, as for playback, the software cannot play any note lower than D...So much for some of my drop C# and Drop C tunings.
Also, I don't know if it's just me, but I could never get the vocal line to play which was very frustrating, but as a guitar tool this program performs its intended tasks reasonably well. Perhaps the next version or some patches will address some of my issues.

Notion Music Progression Software Feb 26, 2009

I recently purchased Progression software from Notion Music after recieving their Demo disk in the mail. The Demo software did not come with documentation to my standards but did come with a rudimentary fold-out sheet listing keyboard and software specific short-cut commands. The registered version of the software had the same rudimentary fold-out sheet for Windows and Mac. No user manual. There is an electronic version of the manual though. You could print it out to hard copy. I think it is around 128 pages long.
I installed the package on Windows XP Professional, Service Pack 3. I run an Intel 1.8 Gigahertz Pentium 4 Processor with 2 Gigabytes of SDRAM. The program seems to work correctly but it is somewhat slow still. I recommend a much faster processor (3 Gigahertz) and at least 2 Gigabytes of RAM. If you have less than my configuration, don't waste your time with the software because it is a memory hog! It requires at least 2 Gigabytes of RAM and 2 Gigahertz Processor speed or greater to run efficiently and without errors. With my configuration, I still find the software a bit slow. I found one sample file that did not play correctly. I atribute that to needing more processing speed because I seem to have plenty of RAM now. When I run the Progression software, I close every running program I can get by with closing.
Before I upgraded RAM to 2 Gigabytes, I had only 512 MB of RAM. That is not enought RAM to run the program. It will bomb out every time. So pay particular attention to Notion's recommended configuration!
I haven't tried everything out yet but you will need knowledge of how to write music. If you don't have that knowledge, you better go buy a book to learn how to read and write music or take a course at your local music school or university.
The software comes with minimal amp modeling tools. You can buy more if you like from Notion. Progression comes with just two amps to model.
Because of Progression's high memory overhead, you should give it a little patience when it loads files. Otherwise, I have not found anything else negative at this time, but I've only been using for about a month.
I would give this software a higher rating (5/5), but the memory hog issue and lack of printed documentation subtract from a perfect rating for me. I rated it (4 out of 5 stars) but it is more like 3.8 out of 5 stars.
