Quantum Leap Gypsy is a collection of detailed virtual instruments capable of playing completely realistic performances - features 8 gigabytes of Solo instruments with unprecedented detail. "When you pair this up with the top-notch PLAY engine, you get an unbeatable duo. There is some true character represented in Gypsy, one that I think a lot of musicians will want to inject into their compositions. Even more than that, I'm always enthralled when something inspires me to create, which is what I believe this library does beautifully." - MUSIC4GAMES Quantum Leap Gypsy - features a collection of detailed virtual instruments capable of playing completely realistic performances. This product is mostly intended for film, tv and game composers. Quantum Leap Gypsy features a collection of detailed virtual instruments capable of playing completely realistic performances. This product is mostly intended for film, tv and game composers. The nylon string guitar, violin and trombone can play in both gypsy and classical styles. In the classical realm these three instruments are unparalleled in the sampling world in terms of playability, diversity and sound quality. The new king of sampled violins has arrived. The violin and trombone feature many articulations, repetitions and even true legato intervals. All of the guitars were sampled with up and down strokes, many velocities and picking styles, release trails, chords and effects. Gypsy's guitars sound incredible and were played by one of the best session guitarists in Los Angeles, David Kole. The accordions feature many different setups, all with air flow in and out samples as well as expressive samples, chords and left hand bass. Gypsy also has a very cool gypsy percussion program and two flamenco dancers foot stomps as well as traditional castanets.

5A superb recreation of rare instruments  Jan 29, 2009 By Cryostatic
Quantum Leap's Gypsy is an incredibly well done piece of sampling work. The classical guitar and violin have levels of detail that I never imagined were possible. I continue to be amazed by EastWest studios' attention to detail. Other notable instruments are the spanish steel guitar, and the trombone, which play very well and sound great. The flamenco and django guitars sound impressively realistic and the accordians are excellent. I consider this a "must have" for my core sample set.

It does require an iLok key to use, but since this is my fourth EW/QL PLAY instrument, that wasn't an issue for me.

5Amazing VST  Apr 14, 2010 By the_grimace
This is one of my favorite VSTs. there's a great selection of classical and acoustic guitars and they all sound absolutely amazing. The violin is one of the best Ive ever heard. The trombone and accordions are top notch as well. The only thing a lacking is the percussion stuff, but it still has its uses. You will not be disappointed with the bulk of this product.

5Awesome product ~ great company too!! :-)  Feb 24, 2010 By William Mccoy "RhythmRancher"
Gypsy is an awesome VST. i have used it for over 2 years now and i love it. very easy to work with and the PLAY software is an excellent platform. The subtle nuances of the guitar and violin are especially realistic and effective for use. I highly recommend this VST and the PLAY software as well. EWQL stays on top of the upgrades. i have not had any problems whatsoever. This company is professional and does a great job keepin up with things. I only wish there was a few more instruments in this collection, however, what is there is very very high quality and useable. :-)

5Possibly best virtual violin ever  Jan 16, 2010 By Christopher L. Simmons "SimChris"
Nick Phoenix has done it again - this is possibly the best virtual violin ever, with both up and down bowing, round robin sample playback, and end bow outros. Unlike what I used to have to do with Gigastudio, using keyswitching, much more than I expected is actually automatic with Gypsy thanks to EW's PLAY engine. Had some hiccups with PLAY on my dual core, but no trouble on my quad core WinPC. Simply brilliant. Yes, like most professional software it requires a dongle (wake up musicians who steal software - you put companies out of business by theft!), but it clearly notes this on the EW site, Amazon's description, the box, reviews in magazines, etc. Most pro level musicians have prior experience with USB keys of some sort, so it won't be an issue. For anybody else, you can order an iLok almost anywhere they sell modern music gear (anybody that sells Pro Tools gear in a store will have iLok keys, too). The reason one is not in the box, is obvious - if you buy four pieces of software, you do NOT need four keys, only one which holds all your licenses on one dongle. And, the benefit is that if you want to use the software on your main workstation on Monday, then your notebook on Tues., you can just move the key over. If you lose it, well, it's like losing the notebook you plug it into... a loss is a loss (learn to keep track of things!); and iLok does offer "insurance" for most licenses (check the iLok site). I've bought about five of the EW products all running on the PLAY engine, running on 32-bit WinXP-SP3, quad core, 4GB RAM. Work great. :-)

1product needs a dongle sold separately -- which nobody tells you  Jun 05, 2008 By Larry G. Johnson
It's been 10 days and I am still waiting for the delivery of the dongle that you need to have to make this software work (a usb thumb drive that is specially programmed by a company called iLok that has neither a phone number nor an address on their web site if you want to find out what happened to your order). If you can put up with having this idiotic authentication strategy required in order to use this Quantum Leap software (good luck on not losing that dongle!) and don't mind that nobody, including this amazon web site, warns you that you really have to buy *two* products, not just this one, then have fun. I'm returning my copy for the false advertising and lousy customer service from iLok. My guess is they're somewhere in Asia.
