3Great product, but do your research  Jul 13, 2010 By Stephen R. West "Adobewizard"
Sibelius 6 is possibly the very best music notation program on the market. I could not be more satisfied with the program. I would give it five stars, but I am rating the overall transaction with Amazon. I think Amazon needs to be more careful how they list Sibelius Competitive Crossgrade.

A competitive crossgrade is a term used to describe the purchase of a new, advanced program, when the customer can prove ownership of a competitor's program. After clicking through several screens on the Sibelius 6 website, I found that Finale was a crossgrade eligible product. I ordered the Sibelius 6 competitive crossgrade program from Amazon, and submitted the required documentation of my Finale "Print Music" program to Sibelius so I could activate Sibelius 6. Sibelius refused, as "Print Music", made by Finale, was not a qualifying product. The more powerful (and more expensive) program, Finale, was the product I needed to qualify for the crossgrade.

Since I had already purchased Sibelius 6, and wanted to use it, I had to buy Finale, which cost more than Sibelius 6, so I could send Finale the documentation and get Sibelius activated.

It became a very expensive process. I should have read the Sibelius website more carefully. Amazon's website says nothing about the requirements to qualify for a crossgrade in their product description. This information is only available on the Sibelius website.

5Wow! Outstanding product, outstanding service  May 21, 2011 By Mary Anne
I bought this as an upgrade to another product I have from Sibelius. I contacted Sibelius first to make sure my product applied to their upgrade rules and they were great help in confirming prior to my purchase. I would recommend doing this, they are super helpful and even recommended me to places such as Amazon to make my purchase while helping me navigate through the process of certifying the new license. I use this product to create lead sheets for guitar and so far have saved tons of time with the new (to me) feature of Sibelius 6 that automatically cleans up my input\layout so chord diagrams, notes and lyrics, never overlap. That work could add hours to the process for me before when I had to do it manually. The chord voicings for guitar are also enhanced. There is a feature that allows you to scroll through voicings during input and easily select the most desirable voicing on the fly (too cool). I will add to this review when I start using the midi-input again as I have not yet tried that feature in this version though have used it before and rely on it. So that alone says something in that this version has so many features that are saving me so much time, I haven't even had to use midi-input to speed my notation process yet! Again, great version, Sibelius customer service was great and helped me through every step of the process(just remember to contact them before getting the upgrade to confirm that your version or prior purchase swap is accepted). I also have the "Sibelius: A comprehensive guide to Sibelius Music Notation Software 2nd Ed' (Rudolph & Leonard) book which I'd recommend as well. The system doc is good but it's all online and it's nice to have a training guide in your hand to speed learning. There's a ton of cool features, you'll just want to sit around creating scores all day... (or maybe that's just me, but really, blown away by their software). Totally fun and cool tool.

5Best notation software I've tried  Dec 07, 2010 By Hugo L. Martinez
If you can afford to, skip Sibelius First and go directly to Sibelius 6. Its comprehensive manual and ability to add plugins are reasons enough, but there are more.

5What musician wouldn't love it?  Jul 21, 2010 By kmgb "vocalist"
Sibelius is the premiere music writing/editing software in my opinion. It can do anything a musician would want. What a dream for those who are old enough to know the time other methods took.
