The Korg nanoPAD is a USB interface offering 12 excellent feeling and highly responsive trigger pads. In addition, a new Chord Trigger function lets you enter chords onto a single pad, helping you to make the most of the work surface as you create. The pads are also able to transmit control change messages, making this a great interface for soloing or muting mixer tracks, turning objects on and off, or triggering clips during your live performances. nanoPAD's X-Y pad offers 'Roll' and 'Flam' modes, to help you lay down ultra-realistic drum grooves. The X-Y pad will also send MIDI CC (Control Change), making it a go-to interface for any parameter within your software that requires full range MIDI control such as pitch, cutoff, volume and beyond. With the "KORG KONTROL Editor" (downloadable free of charge from the Korg website) you can customize four scenes that address the pads and X-Y pad can be stored within nanoPAD to suit your control needs. That means you actually have access to 48 notes/chords, 60 MIDI controllers, or any combination of the two types of data at any given time. Also, select one of three velocity curves or a fixed velocity to tailor the nanoPAD to your touch. Even if the Korg nanoSERIES controllers are your first foray into MIDI control, you can rest assured that you'll be able to get connected to software quickly. As an added value, the nanoPAD comes complete with a download code for Toontrack's EZDrummer Lite, offering super-realistic, highly responsive drums in a convenient plug in, plus you can upgrade to the full version of EZDrummer for a special price.

I had really looked into the other reviews before buying this. I use Toontrack EZDrummer with various EZX's in Cubase and FruityLoops.

First off, the design is fantastic. The size is great not only for little studio spaces but also stages but also just makes it fun and inviting to play with. The touch pad is a great idea too and with all the midi mapping possibilities you can't really feel limited by having "only 12" pads.

The pads, as other reviews should note, are responsive all around and offer pretty good velocity detection, plus they have customizable velocity curves. The problem is that they are not made to last, not in the slightest! I ignored this when other reviews noted dead pads, and even getting dead pads after exchanging their unit for new ones. Don't make my mistake. I have two absolutely unforgivably sticky pads on mine that refuse to play two notes in a row. Dreadful. While I'm glad mine aren't dead per se, try playing for more than a minute without being able to play two kicks or high hats in a row. They may as well be.

I would recommend this to anyone willing to take a chance on it because it's a Korg. (I did... oh well.) If yours is flawless, sell it to me! This thing is really fun and the Korg Kontrol software is great too. If you have trouble with installation/detection you may need to run midifix which erases bogus midi connections from your registry. Hope this helps someone.

Twelve drum pads. XY control surface. Flam. Roll. Small enough to hide in your messenger bag.

I plugged the nanoPAD into my mac, and GarageBand saw it immediately. After a few minutes, I left my MacBook on the desk, put the nanoPAD in my lap, leaned back, and started tapping out beats. When I finally put the nano down, well over an hour had passed.

The pad feel is great - not too firm but not too rubbery. The pads themselves are fairly small, but that makes it easier to work with more than two drums at a time. I'd almost like to see a drum controller with pads just large than the tips of my fingers.

After years of paying sky-high prices for audio gear that always seemed to have something missing, I'm blown away by Korg's nano series. Each controller does its job well and at a price that shouldn't break anyone's bank. Korg blew everyone away with the Electribe series a decade ago, and they are doing it again with the nano controllers.

These nanos are toys - not because they are cheap (though they are inexpensive) but because they are so much fun.

This is a product destined for the land fill. Initial reviews seem very good. But if you dig a little, these things fall apart within months for many owners. And, great reviews are mostly recent purchases, or pubs that got "good ones. Mine never worked properly. Intermittent response. No sensitivity. An absolute unusable product. And, I am not one of those idiots who just couldn't figure out how to make it work. Many just don't. Fortunately I can get a refund. Too bad if yours works for a few months, because you won't be able to when it breaks. Shame on Korg for not going to a better manufacturer and adding a little extra to the cost of this potentially good product. Another piece of plastic floats in the ocean...

How to fix your DOA pads Jul 02, 2011 By Ethan Kim
For those who haven't found out how to fix dead pads,
search, "nanopad fix" in Youtube to find a video on how to fix(revive?) the pads.
(kudos to treilaux for the brilliant video)

After pulling the pads apart and them putting them back together, the pads have been working great.
The pads are sensitive and the roll/flam functions are really useful for making sounds more interesting, especially drums.

After seeing bad reviews here at Amazon and on the web, including people having trouble getting a nanoPAD to work with Propellerheads Reason and Record, I figured the good reviews and the Korg name should win out, because I really want a device of this form factor to work.

Sadly the nanoPAD that I received yesterday didn't work. After two hours of fiddling and downloading and reading forum posts, I was able to get the drum pads to make intermittent *random* drums to sound in the EZDrummer lite, and that only after pressing REALLY hard on the pads. Still no luck with Reason.

I don't have the time or inclination to try to get a new unit on the off-chance it will work. I'm returning this and trying an Akai lpd8.
